Train to teach

We believe in investing in the growth of teachers, unlocking potential and encouraging both critical thinking and engaged, dynamic learning.
Teacher learning and development is an ongoing process, beginning with an initial training phase and continuing throughout your professional life. Our lead school, Mounts Bay Academy works with a number of schools to offer School-Led Initial Teacher Training places in Secondary and Primary in partnership with Cornwall SCITT – our accredited teacher training provider. At the end of the course our high quality graduates can expect to achieve QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) with a PGCE (Bath Spa University).

The course will equip individuals with the skills they need to inspire the thinkers and doers of the future. The School Direct route gives individuals the opportunity to study the craft of teaching first-hand. We take part in the application and selection process which is very thorough. The time they spend in school is maximised and exemplifies the Applied Minds philosophy of adventure and project based learning.

In order to cultivate an environment of self motivation, intelligent enquiry, compassion and respect, you will need to be inspiring, creative, knowledgeable, optimistic, patient, organised, confident and engaging.

Schools benefit from the learning and develop sustainable improvement individualised to their setting and needs.

Leadership development

A key aspect of any Teaching School is taking an active interest in the wellbeing and continued improvement of teachers throughout their career. By supporting them and introducing them to the capabilities of adventure learning, we hope to see generations of educators equipped with the tools they need to encourage the thinkers of the future.

Excellent professional development and opportunities are promoted for training teachers, current teachers, leaders, non-teaching staff and aspiring leaders showcasing new technologies and teaching techniques. An adventurous and growth culture is embraced in order to re-vitalise learning and challenge complacency for all those teaching, learning and leading.
